Creative Programming

The wide range of programs at The Greens at Greenwich is what differentiates it from all other memory care facilities because it is based on an individualized care model.  We offer specialized memory care programs including cognitive groups, movement classes, spiritual groups, creative arts therapies, sensory programs, educational and intergenerational activities.

The Creative Arts Therapies

The Greens at Greenwich is the leader in the use of the creative arts therapies as interventions in memory impairment.  Each creative art therapy (music, art, dance/movement and drama) awakens the brain, memories and emotions through the use of color, texture, movement and sound.  It is all about the process of art making as opposed to the product.  All arts encourage a sense of exploration, play and joy, causing actual changes in the brain’s chemistry.  More importantly, creative arts therapy empowers a resident and provides them with a sense of purpose and belonging.

Maria Scaros-Mercado, the Executive Director, is recognized nationally as a pioneer in creative arts therapy and is a mentor and speaker in her field.   She has created an internship site for masters level students from colleges and universities in the tri-state area, studying the creative arts as therapeutic interventions for people with memory impairment.

Multi-Media Experiences

The Greens at Greenwich prides itself in moving forward with the use of technology. We combine smart TV, the internet, iPads, musical devices and visual tools, bringing the contemporary world into our residents’ daily lives.

Religious Services

We understand our residents’ spiritual needs and offer weekly services for worship, bible studies, spiritual discussion, Shabbat and pastoral care through chaplaincy services. No matter what their tradition, we provide time and space for all.

Trips and Celebrations

The Greens at Greenwich is in close proximity to downtown Greenwich, CT and nearby Westchester County. We take local trips to the theater, restaurants, parks, ferries, museums, and just to get ice cream.

Birthdays are celebrated with special cakes, balloons and serenades. We  have live music and invite families to join us.

“This is Your Life” is a unique program we have created to engage families in the telling of their loved ones story. Each month we feature a resident and their family who share their loved ones story via photos, video, songs, artifacts and trivia. The residents and staff join the families in this very special program.

Live concerts Saturday and Sunday!

Complementary, Physical Fitness and Sensory Experiences

Residents enjoy a massage each week. There is a group exploring each of the five senses. Pet visits include cats and dogs. Yoga, Tai Chi and Zumba are very popular. Many also learn to meditate.

Learning and Sharing Something New

We are wired to learn.  Our residents enjoy Reflections on Art , Music Appreciation, Theater Talk, Poetry Corner and Ballet.  Reviewing the news each day is a favorite as well.  Our residents requested to learn about photography while they were painting and enjoying the outdoors. As a result we have a Photography Club where residents learn about cameras and photos as well as taking photos and gaining insight into famous photographers.

Intergenerational Programs

During the school year our residents are a part of the Sweet Readers Program. Local schools, including The Brunswick School and Edge Hill School, visit weekly and engage with residents in creative activities. We also have a pen pal program and volunteers from our neighbors at Sacred Heart.

Nature

We garden and learn about plants and trees throughout the year in our Go 2 Garden program. We bird watch and learn about birds in our Bird Tale program. We arrange flowers every week for our dining tables, pick pumpkins in the fall, make wreaths in the winter and gaze at the stars with our telescope all year long.
